Cabin-approved strollers: which ones fold small enough?

Which strollers in our catalogue fold small enough to count as cabin-size, with their folded dimensions and weights, and why no stroller is truly 'cabin approved' until your airline says so.

By Sam Hargreaves, checked by Sam Hargreaves. Updated 13 Oct 2026. Written with AI assistance and reviewed by a person.

"Cabin approved" is a phrase you will see on stroller listings, but there is no single approval. Each airline sets its own cabin-bag size and decides at the gate whether a folded stroller fits. What we can tell you is which buggies in our catalogue fold small enough to be sold as cabin-size, and by how much. Always check your airline's own rules before you fly.

How we decide

Every model in our catalogue has a folded size and a "cabin-size" flag, both taken from the manufacturer's published figures and cross-checked against UK retailers. For scale, our model pages draw each fold next to a 55 x 40 x 20cm cabin bag, the size our pages use as a yardstick. Airlines set their own limits, and they differ.

Seven models carry the flag. Folded sizes are as the catalogue records them, in centimetres.

| Model | Status | Folded (cm) | Weight | Suitable from | | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | | Bugaboo Butterfly 2 | Current | 24.5 x 44.8 x 55.5 | 7.3kg | Birth | | Bugaboo Butterfly | Discontinued | 23 x 45 x 54 | 7.3kg | 6 months | | Cybex Coya | Current | 53.5 x 45 x 22 | 7.3kg | Birth | | Babyzen YOYO3 | Current | 18 x 44 x 52 | 6.2kg | Birth | | Babyzen YOYO2 | Discontinued | 18 x 44 x 52 | 6.2kg | Birth | | Silver Cross Jet 5 | Discontinued | 25 x 37 x 60 | 7.5kg | Birth | | Joolz Aer+ | Discontinued | 53.5 x 45 x 21.5 | 6kg | Birth |

Several of these are a few centimetres over 55 x 40 x 20cm in one direction, so "cabin-size" means "fits most sizers", not "guaranteed".

The models

Babyzen YOYO3 and YOYO2

The smallest folds in the list, at 18 x 44 x 52cm, and the lightest of the current models at 6.2kg. The seat does not lie flat on either. The YOYO3's basket takes 10kg and the YOYO2's takes 5kg, which is the main practical difference if you pack in the basket. The YOYO2 has been replaced by the YOYO3, so it is the one to look for second-hand.

Bugaboo Butterfly 2 and Butterfly

The Butterfly 2's seat lies flat, so it can be used from birth. The original Butterfly's does not, so it suits babies from about six months. Both fold in one piece, stand up on their own and have an 8kg basket.

Cybex Coya

Folds to 53.5 x 45 x 22cm and reclines far enough for use from birth. The seat is world-facing only, and the catalogue notes the recline is jerky.

Joolz Aer+ and Silver Cross Jet 5

Both lie flat from birth and both are discontinued, which makes them worth a look second-hand. The Aer+ is the lightest here at 6kg. Both are forward-facing only and best on smooth ground.

Before you fly

  • Measure your own stroller folded, and compare with your airline's cabin-bag limits.
  • Check whether your airline counts a stroller as cabin baggage at all, or takes it free at the gate.
  • Leave the basket empty if you can, and take off anything loose.
