Second-hand Babyzen YOYO: YOYO2 or YOYO3?

Buying a used Babyzen YOYO? How the YOYO2 and YOYO3 differ, what to check on a second-hand one, and how they compare with the Bugaboo Butterfly 2 and Joolz Aer+.

By Sam Hargreaves, checked by Sam Hargreaves. Updated 26 Oct 2026. Written with AI assistance and reviewed by a person.

The Babyzen YOYO is the cabin-size pushchair that made the tiny fold famous. It comes in two versions, and the one you find second-hand is usually the YOYO2. This guide sets out what changed between the two, using the figures in our catalogue, and what to check before you buy a used one.

YOYO2 or YOYO3: which to buy second-hand

The YOYO2 is discontinued and the YOYO3, now sold under the Stokke name, is the current model, so the YOYO2 is the one that turns up used most often. The two weigh the same, 6.2kg with the 6+ seat, and fold to the same size. The differences that matter are the basket, the handling and the fold details.

| | YOYO2 | YOYO3 | | --- | --- | --- | | Status | Discontinued | Current | | Launched | 2020 | 2024 | | Suitable from | Birth (newborn pack or bassinet) | Birth (newborn pack or bassinet) | | Seat lies flat | No | No | | Weight (frame with 6+ seat) | 6.2kg | 6.2kg | | Folded (cm) | 18 x 44 x 52 | 18 x 44 x 52 | | Basket limit | 5kg | 10kg | | Stands when folded | Yes | Not recorded | | RRP (frame and 6+ seat) | £399 | £399 |

If you will use the basket for shopping or a changing bag, the YOYO3's 10kg basket is double the YOYO2's 5kg. If you mainly want the fold, the two are the same size, and the YOYO2 does the same job. See the full side-by-side on our YOYO3 against YOYO2 comparison.

What a used YOYO costs

Used prices move, so we don't print a figure in a guide that will go out of date. Our YOYO3 value page shows the current price index with the date it was last updated, and the Babyzen hub covers the rest of the range. Check what is in stock now in the shop.

What we check when we refurbish one

Every buggy we sell goes through the same 11 checks, whatever the brand. For a YOYO the ones that matter most are the fold, the brakes and the wheels. Our guide to buying a second-hand pram sets out the full list, and you can repeat most of it yourself on a private sale.

Newborn pack or bassinet

Both versions are listed as suitable from birth, but not with the standard seat: the 6+ seat is the one that is included, and a 0+ newborn pack or a bassinet is a separate purchase. For the YOYO2 the catalogue records the newborn pack at £157 and the bassinet at £235 when new. A used YOYO may or may not come with either, so ask what is included. The seat itself does not lie flat on either model. The newborn pack folds with the frame, but the bassinet has to be lifted off and packed separately.

Folded size, weight and cabin suitability

Both fold to 18 x 44 x 52cm and weigh 6.2kg with the 6+ seat, and the catalogue lists both as cabin-friendly. That is the catalogue's flag for the folded size, not an airline approval, and airline limits differ, so check your own airline's size limits and see our cabin-size guide. To see how the YOYO folds, step by step, use the YOYO3 fold guide or the YOYO2 fold guide.

Common wear points

A travel pushchair is folded and unfolded far more than a full-size one, so look first at the parts that move:

  • Folding mechanism. Fold it and unfold it three or four times. It should lock shut and lock open without force or play.
  • Wheels. The wheels are small, so look for flat spots, cracks and wobble, and check they swivel and lock.
  • Canopy and fabric. Look for fading, tears and worn zips, especially at the folds.
  • Harness. Test every buckle and adjuster, and look for fraying at the straps.
  • Brake. It should hold forwards and backwards.

The catalogue also notes the watch-outs. On the YOYO2: the basket only takes 5kg and is partly blocked by the frame, the seat does not lie flat, and the fixed handlebar can feel low for tall parents. On the YOYO3: the seat does not lie flat, it is world-facing only in the 6+ set-up, and it struggles on gravel, mud and rough paths. Third-party reviews such as Made for Mums on the YOYO2 and Pram World on the differences are worth reading alongside this.

YOYO, Butterfly or Joolz Aer+

All three fold to cabin-bag size. The catalogue figures:

| | Babyzen YOYO3 | Bugaboo Butterfly 2 | Joolz Aer+ | | --- | --- | --- | --- | | Weight | 6.2kg | 7.3kg | 6kg | | Folded (cm) | 18 x 44 x 52 | 24.5 x 44.8 x 55.5 | 54 x 45 x 22 |

The Aer+ is the lightest by a little and the YOYO3 folds smallest, while the Butterfly 2 is heavier and has the 8kg basket. Which suits you depends on how you travel, so use the Butterfly 2 against YOYO3 and Aer+ against YOYO3 comparisons, and see our guides to travel strollers and the second-hand Bugaboo Butterfly.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between the YOYO2 and YOYO3? On our figures, the weight and folded size are the same. The main recorded difference is the basket: 10kg on the YOYO3 against 5kg on the YOYO2. See Pram World's comparison for more.

Is the YOYO2 discontinued? According to our catalogue, yes. The YOYO3 is the current model, sold under the Stokke name.

What are the downsides of the YOYO? The seat does not lie flat on either version, the wheels are small so it suits pavements better than rough ground, and the YOYO2's basket is small.

Can a newborn use a YOYO? Both are listed as suitable from birth with a 0+ newborn pack or a bassinet, which are extras. Check the maker's own pages before using one with a newborn.
